“We wanted to build a camp for the dedicated amateur trail runner, the non-professional. You know the Salomon camps for their elite runners? They take place all over the world where they run awesome trails and eat amazing food. THAT…but for the rest of us.”
Amy Brennick - Trail lover and founder of red desert trail camps
Trail Camp Leaders
Co-Leader, Kate Metcalf (she/her)
Originally from the Midwest, Kate has always been an outdoorsperson, growing up riding bikes and camping with family, but it wasn’t until her 30s that she discovered trailrunning. Her first 50k was an unsupported and untrained for solstice run and even before the muscle soreness faded, the fire was lit.
Kate has gone on to finish many trail ultras up to 100 miles and is inspired by big challenges in beautiful places, but her greatest joy is the bond that is shared between runners, pacers, and crew as they work together and support each other to do amazing things in the wild.

Co-Leader, Cristal Hibbard (she/her)
Cristal grew up in the San Juan Mountain of Colorado with no shortage of outdoor activities. In her younger days, running was just part of soccer conditioning, not an enjoyable activity in its own right. After moving to Alaska in her mid 20s, she fell in with a crowd that normalized trail running long distances and was immediately hooked after a 23 mile day on the Crow Pass trail. It’s been a slipperly slope of longer and longer races and days on the trail ever since, culminating in her first 100 mile race, the Crazy Mountain 100 in 2022. Cristal is back in the San Juans exploring her backyard, and the other amazing landscapes of the southwest US, via all modes of human powered travel. She loves to see other women challenge and surprise themselves out on the trail and can’t wait to meet everyone at trail camp.

Co-Leader, Amy Brennick (she/her)
A native Californian, Amy started running as a way to get in shape for basketball when she was 15. She quickly realized the comradery, encouragement and love on the cross country team paired with pushing her limits would have her quitting the basketball team and committing fully to running…for the rest of her life. Despite being a self proclaimed lover of the 5km distance, during the pandemic Amy and her best friend Meghan used the time to explore unfamiliar Bay Area trails and start running longer distances. After the Bryce Canyon 50km in 2021, Amy ran the Black Canyon 60k in 2023 and plans to run the Black Canyon 100k in 2025. For the last 10 years, she has spent her time personal training and co-running Lift and Sprint, an outdoor kettlebell strength and conditioning business, with her husband. She has a boisterous nine year old rock climbing daughter and is beyond excited to start this new venture with the hope of inspiring women to train and accomplish amazing physical feats on the trails.
