SEDONA TRAIL CAMP

October 12th -15th 2023

Red Desert Trail Running Details

The Sedona Camp is a four-day, three-night trail running experience.

It is our very first trail camp and we are THRILLED to welcome you to one of the most beautiful areas of the country to trail run.

We can host 7-9 athletes on this first camp and there will be 3 camp co-leaders
to ensure you have the best training camp possible.
This camp is open to all paces but we must say that this is not a hiking camp.
We ask that you are able to spend 2 to 3 hours running on trail for both the Friday and Saturday big adventure run days.
Expect to cover between 25 to 30 miles over the four days.
This camp will boost your fitness AND you need to have a solid fitness base to attend.
If you feel that coming to this camp is a goal you would like to train for,
we are available for one-on-one coaching or to develop a training plan to get you there.
We WANT you here.
The afternoons and evenings will be time to do some sightseeing or shopping in town, relaxing by the pool at our house,
or for those of you looking for more mileage we have trail heads .25 miles out the front door for double runs.
We will also have a few informal workshops or conversations regarding
trail running nutrition, recovery techniques, strength training and the mental side of running.
All of your meals are included (except for alcohol) in the cost of camp
and we will send a questionnaire to learn more about your preferences.
Expect some meals at the house and others out in town to experience the incredible local cuisine.
We want to create an environment for womxn who take their sport seriously to train hard in an inspiring environment
with other like-minded womxn.

As an adult, I am incredibly fortunate to have made two new friends with my co-leads due to our shared interests
in trail running and love of the outdoors…and donuts.
We hope to provide the same kind of environment for you as well.
If this sounds like something you are interested in and you are ready to reserve your spot,
please click the link below. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

I’ve had a few womxn reach out to me saying they aren’t in shape for this camp but really want to be. I love this so much. I want women to want to train for big, physical goals instead of aesthetically based goals meant to keep us small. If you need any help at all, with the running or strength training component, please reach out by filling out the form below. We can set up a time to talk and design a training program that works for you. Whether you need a coach to guide you weekly or just to check in once a month, we have you covered.

1:1 Coaching

If you are interested in training to come to this camp, or are looking for a running coach in general, we have you covered!

Thursday

October 12th | Hog Wash Trail | 5 miles | 529 ft of gain

After a quick meet and greet once we arrive at the house, we will head out for a less than 5 mile shake out run on the Hog Wash Trail which is accessible from our awesome house. There will be plenty of time to stop and take pictures of the stunning scenery.

The Trail Runs

We have one organized trail run per day. With 3 campers per 1 trail lead, no one will ever be left on their own. We will have three different pace groups and will regroup on the trail at various spots on the run. WE are here to work hard but also to be together as a group and enjoy the beautiful landscape. We will try our best to stick to the itinerary below but reserve the right to change due to unforeseen circumstances.

Friday

October 13th | hi-line loop | 8.5 miles | 977 ft of gain

Today’s adventure has us starting at the Yavapai trailhead just a short drive from the house. We will gently climb our way to the Hi Line Trail which will give us a unique view of both Bell Rock and Cathedral Rock. We then get to traverse Hi Line down to the slick rock found on the Baldwin trail and finally onto Templeton which follows Old Creek back to the start. An absolute stunner of a run.

saturday

October 14th | Big run day! | Chuckwagon loop
  • 12.5 mile Chuckwagon Loop with 1285 ft. of gain OR 6.3 mile with 891 ft. of gain loop from the same trailhead.

  • We will have trail leads going three different paces on this route. .

sunday

October 15th | optional Goodbye run from the house

Depending on how you are feeling after a few big days of running, we will have an optional run or hike on the trails from the house that will be anywhere from 3 to 5 miles. If you feel like going for a walk instead, fantastic. You do you. We want everyone to challenge themselves this weekend AND also make the right choices for you.

JAVELINA HOUSE

Our headquarters for camp

Located just two miles from downtown Sedona and a quarter mile from the nearest trailhead, we are thrilled to be staying at the Javelina House for camp. This 3,000 sq. ft. house is surrounded by red rock views on all sides and boasts a swimming pool and a hot tub for afternoon recovery sessions after big days on the trail. We chose this comfortable yet modern house as our headquarters to allow folks the proximity to town if they would like to adventure on their own or perhaps add a double run for the day from the easily accessible trails.

I haven’t attended a running camp before because I’ve either been too intimated to go to coed ones or the female only ones didn’t seem like the right fit. I LOVE the desert so much and I’m thrilled to finally be attending my first camp with Amy, who I’ve trained with for years.

FAQ

  • Trail runners of varying paces and abilities are welcome to camp. That said, this is not a hiking camp. Please look at the planned runs to make sure this is something you will be able to do. If you aren’t sure, reach out to us and we can figure it out together.

Our longest run will be either 13 or 16 miles and while there is no time limit, out of respect for the other participants, please arrive to camp willing and able to take this on.

We want to challenge and support each other during this camp. We don’t expect you to be an elite athlete but we do want to make sure you are prepared.

  • There is a non-refundable $600 deposit due at registration.

Cancel between registration and August 15th, 2023 and receive a full refund minus the non-refundable deposit.

No refunds will be given for cancellations after August 15th, 2023.

Late cancellations make it extremely costly for us to find other participants and we are likely to take a loss. If you are concerned about a potential issue, we strongly encourage purchasing trip insurance.

  • Make sure to pack a variety of running clothing for both hot and cool temperatures as Sedona weather is still warm during the day but can be chilly at night. You need a hydration pack that can carry 2 liters of water. Pack your favorite running snacks and of course trail shoes. Don’t forget a bathing suit for the pool and hot tub and also something a little nicer for a few dinners out on the town. And all the hats…

  • There will be a complimentary shuttle leaving Phoenix Airport for Sedona at 2pm on Thursday, October 12th. Please plan your flights accordingly. If you can’t make our shuttle, there are other shuttles you can arrange for the 2 hour trip to Sedona but it will definitely be more fun in our vans hehe. On Sunday, we will leave for the airport by 9:30 am so plan your flights out for the early afternoon.

  • A healthy breakfast bar will be offered each morning at camp headquarters, gourmet picnic lunches, and evening dinners out on the town are all provided. In addition, headquarters will be stocked with a variety of snacks, waters, and beers.

  • One thing I learned from my own running camp experiences is although I loved spending time doing planned things, I also really wanted a few hours of down time. For those of you who may want to nap, have a second run, go into town or read a book by the pool, we have this time built in for you.
